Alexander High School students and staff cheered on five student-athletes who signed letters pledging to play at the college level.
The senior student-athletes include: William Omenski, who will play football at University of Central Oklahoma; Andrea Nunez, who will play volleyball at University of Texas-Arlington; Carmen Perez, who will play softball at Coastal Bend College in Beeville, Texas; Angel Villafranca, who will play baseball at Our Lady of the Lake University; and Isabella Santini, who will run cross country at Oral Roberts University.
AHS Principal Rosana Arizola was extremely proud of the successful student-athletes.
“We have athletes who will move on to a career playing sports in their different areas. It’s an exciting time for the athletes, an exciting time for our coaches because these students will continue playing at the higher level, at the college level and so it’s a big accomplishment,” Arizola said.
“They’ve worked hard since they were little to reach this point so I am super excited that today we have … families and friends here and the different clubs and organizations that represent them are also here to support them,” Arizola added.
“It’s a big opportunity for them because not everyone gets this opportunity to go play at the college level so these students are very thrilled and excited,” the principal said.
As athletes, they bring a lot to the table. Arizola said they have to maintain a good academic level and they have to be model students. “They represent not only the sport but they represent the campus,” she added.
