United ISD will be requiring clear backpacks for the 2024-2025 school year.
In a continued effort to enhance school safety for students and staff, United ISD will require clear backpacks for all students in grades K-12 for the 2024-2025 school year. This requirement excludes pre-K students.
Students will be allowed to carry a small, non clear pouch in their backpack to store personal items, such as cell phones, money, and hygiene products. To support this effort, each student in K-12 will be given a free sturdy backpack. Parents also have the option to purchase their own preferred backpack that meets the Clear Backpack requirements.
The Clear Backpack requirement alone does not guarantee complete security. This requirement is one of many proactive measures that United ISD is taking to enhance safety for students and staff.

United ISD takes the wellbeing of our students and staff very seriously, and is taking every precaution to ensure the safety of everyone at our schools. We encourage parents to talk to your children about safety. If parents or students see or hear of any suspicious or concerning activity, please report them immediately to district authorities or police. “See Something, Say Something.” Students are advised to add a tag or other form of identification to their clear bags/backpacks to prevent them from getting mixed up.
