Leading the Way to Student Success, Dr. Angelica Sanchez Takes on New Executive Role

United Independent School District proudly announces the promotion of Dr. Angelica Sanchez to Executive Director of College, Career, and Military Readiness and Enrichment. With nearly three decades of distinguished service in public education, Dr. Sanchez brings visionary leadership, deep experience in secondary education, and a strong commitment to preparing students for postsecondary success.

Dr. Sanchez began her educational career in 1997 as a Career and Technical Education (CTE) educator at United South High School. In 2002, she transitioned into administration, serving as Assistant Principal and Magnet Dean for the Business and Technology Magnet School. By 2010, she was named Magnet Dean for the Engineering Magnet School at United High School, where she helped expand STEM education opportunities.

In 2015, Dr. Sanchez was appointed Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE), a position she held for a decade. Her tenure marked a period of strategic growth and innovation across the district’s college and career programs. Among her many achievements, Dr. Sanchez developed and implemented five Early College High School programs among the four United ISD comprehensive high schools, expanding access to dual-credit courses and associate degrees for hundreds of students. Her efforts led to United ISD’s CTE Program being named a 2025 Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT) “District of Distinction,” honoring excellence in program development and workforce readiness.

She also led a district-wide increase in student industry certifications and CTE program of study completers. This last school year alone, 226 UISD students obtained Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, while 117 students received CTE certificates in high-demand fields such as HVAC, Cybersecurity, EMT, Logistics, and Diesel Technology.

“I’m deeply honored to take on this new role and continue serving and supporting the students in our district,” said Dr. Sanchez. “I want to thank the Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Cruz for entrusting me with this responsibility. College, career, and military readiness is more than a goal—it’s a promise to our students. Every student deserves to graduate high school with a plan, a purpose, and the tools to thrive in the pathway they choose.”

As Executive Director of College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR), Dr. Angelica Sanchez will lead United ISD’s district-wide efforts to ensure all students are equipped for success in higher education, the workforce, or military service. Her leadership will focus on advancing tri-agency initiatives, strengthening college and career readiness through dual enrollment opportunities, and building programs that empower students through real-world learning experiences.

Dr. Sanchez is a respected leader in the broader education and workforce community. She serves on the Board of Directors for Workforce Solutions of South Texas, where she contributes to regional workforce alignment and development strategies. She also serves on various advisory committees at Laredo College, helping guide collaborative efforts to maintain curricula that are rigorous, relevant, and responsive to both student needs and economic demands.

Her leadership has also been recognized by key partners in higher education and workforce development. Colleagues from Laredo College and Workforce Solutions of South Texas commend Dr. Sanchez for her visionary leadership, her role in expanding Early College and dual credit opportunities, and her unwavering commitment to building strong pathways from high school to college and careers.

Dr. Sanchez earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a Master’s in Educational Administration from Texas A&M International University. She also holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lamar University.

Outside of her professional career, Dr. Sanchez enjoys spending quality time with her family and is a passionate fan of baseball- especially when cheering on her son, who plays for the TAMIU Dustdevils. She has been married to Alfredo Sanchez III for 29 years and is the proud mother of two sons: Alfredo Sanchez IV and Antonio Javier  “AJ” Sanchez.
